About A.S. Academy of Learning in Bear, DE
We are a Funshine Curriculum-based childcare in Bear. We care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years old and provide a range of age-appropriate resources and activities to encourage their development right up until they are ready to join school.
Who We Are
A.S. Academy of Learning got its start as Aunt Shannon’s in Newark, DE in 1999, and quickly became an established and well-known large family daycare. In 2014, A.S. Academy of Learning was established in Newark and the sister site was born in Bear, DE in 2017 by Shannon and David Moody. We decided to do things a bit differently at A.S. Academy of Learning by creating a space that fosters early learning in a fun and safe environment where children from 6 weeks to 12 years old can explore the world around them.
We believe our innovative approach gives children a bright and positive start in life as we encourage both exploration and discovery as well as emotional intelligence and building friendships.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is based on hands-on learning and child-led discovery. By blending indoor and outdoor classrooms and environments in a home-away-from-home environment, we are able to create a space where children feel empowered and ready to learn.

Indoor and outdoor play areas to encourage physical activity and the development of gross motor skills.
Onsite laundry and full-service kitchen for preparing healthy meals.
A hub for family and community events, where our children will engage with people from all walks of life, and learn about different cultures and traditions.
We also offer a wide variety of activities and programs including language lessons, weekly themes, STEM-based learning, and more.
Each room at A.S Academy of Learning is thoughtfully designed to support the developmental milestones of young children, offering them the tools and experiences they need to grow into happy, confident learners.

Yellow Ducklings
The Yellow Ducklings room is designed for infants, offering a nurturing and stimulating environment for your baby's earliest stages of growth. With a focus on promoting sensory exploration and motor skills development, this program encourages babies to discover the world around them in a safe and caring setting. It's the perfect place for your infant to experience their first connections with others and begin developing their cognitive and physical abilities.
Green Frogs
The Green Frogs room provides a fun, comfortable, and loving environment for toddlers aged 12 to 24 months. This stage is all about curiosity and exploration, with a focus on promoting language development, social interactions, and early motor skills. The classroom is designed to be engaging and supportive, offering children the opportunity to play, explore, and build self-confidence as they begin to navigate the world more independently.
Blue Jays
For two-year-old children, the Blue Jays room offers an engaging and creative space that fosters early learning through play. At this age, children are developing their communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and social awareness. The Blue Jays room provides various activities that promote creativity, fine motor skills, and early cognitive development, helping children become more independent while having fun and exploring their growing abilities.
Purple Caterpillars
In the Purple Caterpillars room, children aged three have the chance to gain independence in a fun and interactive environment. This space is designed to support their growing sense of autonomy, self-expression, and social development. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning experiences, group activities, and opportunities for children to make choices, fostering critical thinking, cooperation, and communication skills as they prepare for the next stage of learning.
Colorful Butterflies
The Colorful Butterflies room is the final step before children head off to kindergarten. This room is designed to prepare four and five-year-olds for the transition to a more structured learning environment. Here, children will develop essential pre-kindergarten skills, including early literacy, math, and problem-solving abilities, while continuing to grow socially and emotionally. The Colorful Butterflies program builds confidence and readiness for the exciting adventures of formal schooling.

Merging Teaching and Childcare
We offer a variety of programs, including care for infants, toddlers, preschool, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten.
We also offer before and after-school care for children up to 12 years old as part of our Camp Clover.
We believe that it’s never too early to start learning and that it’s vital to always present opportunities for children to learn and grow as soon as they start at our center.
By developing our programs with curriculum experts and childcare specialists, we’ve been able to hone in on what makes early education a success and created a learning program that allows our children to enter school seamlessly.
